The Art Deco style from the 1920's and 1930's was the first major style to shed the traditional classic approaches
and embrace modernism. Named after the Paris decorative arts exhibition of 1925 (Exposition International des arts
decoratifs et industrial), this style adopted machine-age materials like chrome, glass, bakelite, and other
synthetics. Also of significant influence was the glamour of Hollywood during the period. Today it is easy to recognize
many Art Deco inspired buildings, and furnishings by their representative geometric designs, unique shapes, and materials.
A recent resurgent popularity for retro styles has provided consumers with many home furnishings in the Art Deco style
