Neoclassical

Neoclassical Decorating Guide

The neo-classical movement was a reinterpretation of classical architecture, art, and textile motifs. As was the art of this period, the designs are rich with color, ornate in detail, and often can be distinguished by the influence of their origins - mainly countries of old-world Europe. Whether inspired from Greek Revival, Empire, Baroque, Rococo, et al - today these designs can be found in wallcoverings, fabrics, carpet, lighting, furniture, and home decor from a variety of sources - and not at a king's ransom!

Colors can range from the regal reds, purples, black and golds, or the more subtle European teal, pink and neutrals. The design elements are everything in reproducing this style. Look for medallions, Greek key, urns, detailed iron scolls, and other ornate design elements.
