15th Century Scotts claim the unique addition of the 'hole' - the true foundation of golf. The first written rules
appear around 1744 drafted for 'The Gentlemen Golfers of Leith' by Duncan Forbes. An example from the list taken
from GolfEurope.com includes: "If a ball be stopp'd by any person, horse or dog, or anything else, the ball so stopp'd
must be played where it lyes."
